Honey Yogurt and Turmeric Mask- Skin Needs to Eat

There were days that my skin didn’t always look how I wanted, especially after the long exhausted road trips that I barely remembered to use sun block or lotion. When my skin felt dry and liveless, I have some homemade recipes to bring back that cheerful shine.

I am quite experimental when it comes to personal care and beauty products, that is why I change them really often. My husband hated me buying new soap and lotion every other weeks. I came across several disappointments and really amazing products like my new hair serum from the Caribbean that has repaired my damage hair recently.

But frankly, many good things can be created at home. My honey yogurt and turmeric mask is my favorite recipe I use every now and then to bring back that glowing smoothness to my skin.

Turmeric is one of my favourite ingredients for both food and beauty potion. Turmeric is known for its Ayurvedic values as inflammatory, anti-aging, and antiseptic agents. When I was a kid, my mother often used fresh turmeric paste on the bruises on my skin which helped it heal and prevent from infection.

The glistening, amber lava of honey is high in antioxidant agent that helps fighting the skin damage. Honey makes your skin soft and glow.

Yogurt helps in moisturizing and the light acidic character help removing the dead skin cells. It makes your skin feel smooth and rejuvenating. I usually use Greek yogurt for the mask, because the thick and rich texture helps the mask stay on the skin better.

Honey Yogurt and Turmeric Mask

Ingredients:

1 cup cold Greek yogurt (or thick natural yogurt)

2 tbsp honey

2 tsp organic turmeric powder

You will also need

A clean mixing bowl and spoon for stirring

A sterilized jar for storing if not use immediately

Method

Combine yogurt, honey and turmeric in the mixing bowl and stir until smooth. Keep in the jar and refrigerate upto a week.

Usage

Wash your face with mild soap, rise and pat dry.

Apply the mask on the face and keep it for 15 minutes.

Rise well with cold water and your regular moisturizer afterward.

The mask was cold and soothing. I love the natural smells of honey and yogurt which help me relax while the mask stayed on my face. My skin felt soft and alive after a quick wash. There is no harm in trying this unless you are allergic to the ingredients, otherwise why not… all ingredients are right there in your kitchen.

Have a beautiful day,
Tes

  • I love this idea. I would be concerned the tumeric would stain. The mask color is amazing!

You are right, turmeric does stain especially on your finger and nails, but it really does make your skin feel and look good :)

      Hi Laura,

I’m Indian and have used Turmeric facial masks my whole life.

No matter what your skin tone is (my white, black, Spanish etc) friends have all tried them with me – your skin will not stain or look yellow.

Your nails, and home, however are a different story! Use gloves to avoid staining your nails and be super careful about touching things. Baking soda and water is a great cleaner if the turmeric stains your counters and sink.

      • Tes

Ann, you’re right. The nails are stained pretty badly sometimes when I handle turmeric clumsily. Thanks for the baking soda and water tip… I have several spots in my kitchen that need to be cleaned :)

I just started drinking the Turmeric and soy milk just last night, how often do you drink it, and I use the Turmeric, honey and yogurt every other day, should I use the paste daily, or is that too much?

      • Tes

I never drink turmeric with soy milk or milk, but i know people do it for health and beauty effect. I don’t think you should use the paste daily. yeah, it’s a bit much. once or twice a week is good enough.

did the turmeric stain your face afterwards? and if so how do you get rid of it? does it also leave a smell for a few hours?

    • Tes

Yes, it does actually but very little, and I find it giving a beautiful creamy glow- kind of. Wash your face with plain water for a couple of time help reducing the stain. The smell of turmeric is not actually bad, but if you don’t like it, do not worry, this mask doesn’t smell much :)

  • Sweet blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News.
Do you have any tips on how to get listed
in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Cheers

  • Amanda

My skin is very sensitive and a bit spotty since coming off birth control pills, and this is a wonderful soothing, calming daily mask for my skin. My skin feels better, calmer and glows. I thicken the mask with a couple of spoonfuls of ground almonds. Another tip is to make sure your face is exfoliated because the turmeric colour will cling to any dry flakes of skin.

    • Tes

Amanda, ground almond is a great addition to this mask. Oh, I always have a tiny bit of problem that the turmeric stains on my skin afterward, too. Next time, I’ll make sure I exfoliate nicely :)

  • Heema

Hey Ive been started useing since week but i seen little bit diffrence ! but i still have acne on my face !! what else u think i should try !

    • Tes

Honey always do the work of getting rid of acne for me. You can also try exfoliate your face gently with some baking soda, and then aloe vera jel after that. Keep your face clean and don’t use oily skin products :)

      • Heema

does honey helps to get rid of pimples too ? sry but whats exfoliate ? And yeah your tip is awesome because im happy to seen difference :)

        • Tes

          Hi Heema,
Yes, honey can get rid of pimple and irritating redness on your skin. I usually apply it for a couple of hours, and then rise it off with cold water. You can do it everyday. Honey makes your skin super soft and smooth. Exfoliation is the process of removing outer/dead surface of your skin. You can use commercial scrub or homey product like baking powder, ground almond, fine bath salt, etc.

  • The Yoghurt Honey and Tumeric face mask looks dramatic but I have tried this before a few years ago when a friend recommended to try it and it does work. Thank you for the full ingredients as I lost the details,so I will now try this again.

  • Donna Bell

Love the recipes…thank you so much for them.

Will be trying out tomorrow and posting on my Facebook page.

  • Betty Talbot

I can’t thank you enough Tes!
I started using a cream to take away my melasma and it is harsh on my skin. I’m supposed to use it every night, but I wasn’t able to utill I came across your Azing mask!
I’m able to use both. My skin is constantly peeling(which is the desired outcome) but with the Greek yogurt the dead skin comes off the same day without looking “raw” if you know what I mean!
Thanks a million and God bless you. ;)

I am one with my fair skin that became a kit yellow from the turmeric, but I used a paste made from baking soda which help wash away the little bit of yellowish glow I had. But after wards, I had the most beautiful glow, everyone was asking what I was doing for my skin treatment. Loved it. I now have a ongoing stock of supply in my refrig that I use twice weekly.
