Flowers are pretty things. Is drinking flower tea making you feel pretty as well? Yes, it does for me. I love herbal tea especially those which made from colorful blossoms from the wild. That’s why I love Roselle tea, hibiscus tea, and always have dried Chrysanthemum in my pantry.
These flowers are not only giving you the most beautiful colors and fragrances in the clear tea but they are very good for your health.
Chrysanthemum tea is my absolute addiction. As a kid, I enjoyed the sparkling glasses of sweet ice- tea from these lovely yellow flowers and now I even love the hot cup of mellowing amber swirl every morning.
We made dried Chrysanthemum flowers at home in Thailand. Mrs Farmers grows these pretty flowers along the sides of her vegetable plots. They are not only giving a refreshing look to her garden but also preventing those nuisance insects and pests near her precious vegetables. When the perky flowers bloom and ready, we gently pick and preserve them for a healthy drink.

My mother always offered us a warm cup of Chrysanthemum tea to help us get rid of the fever in the winter. Chrysanthemum tea is very good for your eyes and skin. It helps preventing and curing acne and burn. It helps clearing several eyes problems like blurring, irritation, diminished vision, and spots in the eyes. This beautiful tea also helps treating circulatory disorders like atherosclerosis.
Chrysanthemum contains Adenline Choine Stachydrine which is natural fragrant oil that provides herbal remedies for inflammatory, head ache, eyes pain, and indigestion. It also used as home treatment for coronary heart disease, kidney stone, infection, high blood pressure, asthma, and skin and nerve diseases.
All those fabulous properties of chrysanthemum flowers are not only the reason why I love this wonderful tea so much but Chrysanthemum tea is very earthy, fragrant and refreshing drink.
To dry Chrysanthemum flowers is very easy but need to be handled with care. After picking the healthy flowers and discarding all leaves and stems, we gently wash them in clean water for several times to ensure all soil and impurities are removed. Then we slowly roast these gentle flowers in the warm iron wok for 30 minutes and sprinkle over with homemade rice wine before letting them dry in the sunlight until fully dehydrated. These dried flowers can be store in air-tight container up to several months.
Making Chrysanthemum tea is very simple, just like making other tea, but we need lower water temperature and a little longer time to slowly infuse the flavour and fragrance of the flowers into the water. High heat would destroy medicinal and herbal properties of the flower so we have to slowly cook the flowers in low heat. It can be served warm or chill, I love both versions.
Ingredients (4 servings)
4-5 dried Chrysanthemum flower
5 cup of water
Sugar to taste
- Bring a pot of water to the medium-low heat with 4-5 dried Chrysanthemum flowers and slowly cook them for 5 minutes. The water should gradually turn yellow and the aroma of the flowers should infuse into the water.
- Serve warm with or without sugar
Or add sugar and stir until all sugar is dissolved. Let the tea cool down and serve chill with some ice.

It wakes me up and makes me feel clean and fresh from within. A glass of sweet Chrysanthemum tea with crush ice is absolutely a must in the afternoon, too. It’s so refreshing and delightful.
