Can you live without your smartphone for a day? I think the most honest answer would be like one of the most memorable quote of Jennifer Aniston as Sarah Huttinger in the movie Rumor Has It, saying, “I didn’t come here to tell you that I can’t live without you. I can live without you. I just don’t want to.”
You feel like being unplugged from the world, feeling emotional stranded and trapped when you lose your phone. I mean half your life is in there. Your friends live in there, and they are waiting for you in the group chat.
You know we don’t even adore our friends that much when they aren’t in the digital form. You carry them anywhere with you. There’re interactive. They’re always there for you, making you laugh, cry, arguing with you, making up rumors, being cute, etc… Oh, you know what I’m talking about. I have spent most of my daily communication online, using email, instant messenger, Facebook, Twitter and chat application.
On my phone of course, I use WeChat, a genius chat application that allows you to stay connected with your friends day in and day out. You should check out WeChat’s Youtube channel page here.
WeChat app is available for iPhone, Android phone, BlackBerry, Windows phone and even Nokia. I love variety of interactive features of this app where you can have live chat, group chat, video call, voice chat, etc. You can also share photos with friends, view your chat history and back up your conversations. It can connect to your Facebook, and it has some cute feature like Drift Bottle where you can send messages in the bottle and throw it in a virtual sea. Hehe, lovely!
When WeChat launched a contest in Indiblogger and asked “If you could connect with 5 or more people in a WeChat group – who would they be, and why? What would you talk about? The people can be dead, alive or even fictional”, I thought it would be fun to write about it.
The first person who came to my mind is of course my husband, Sadik. I didn’t want to make it sound cheesy or anything, but he has always been my best chat so far. We’ve been chatting for more than 10 years now…and these days I continue to send him cute, naughty and funny messages every day.
Next is my favorite food show host, Ishai Golan. He’s pretty entertaining. I think he’s the most hilarious food and travel presenter I’ve seen, and he has my dream job, eating street food for a living! How cool is that! I definitely want him on my group chat, so we could share some funny and interesting food stories.
And since I love music so much, I’m gonna have Blake Shelton on my list. Yep, I’m a country music fan, and he’s so awesome in many possible ways. He would be the one to suggest a cool playlist to the group.
Next will probably be my editor, Lea Ellen who is editing of my novel, Lavender Blood right now. This woman is my angle, and I just love her. I learn a lot from Lea Ellen. I often told my husband knowing her is worth more than my degree from university. It would be nice to have someone like her moderate our chat as well.
Last but not least came in a pair, the evil twin Neaw and Naow (I swear those name are real.) They’re my long lost school twin friends/nemesis. I haven’t heard from them for ages, and it would be cool to get in touch with them once again. We’re friends, and one of them shifted my baby tooth, another one is responsible for a small scar on my face.
It would be so funny to have these guys on my list. And right now, it just made me wonder how the conversation would be if all of us hang out together in the group chat one day, but I imagine one corny example:
Me: hello guys, how’re you guys doing? We’ve just gotten some really lovely rain this week.
Ishai: I had an awesome night on the streets in Bangkok. I just tried one of those deep-fried insect stand. OMG they’re yuck!
Blake: Dang! I’m stuck with biscuit and gravy for breakfast. Would like some of those nasty insects on the side. Although I’m enjoying a really cool music over here. Any of you guys are a fan of Darius Rucker? Add ‘Wagon Wheel’ to your playlist!
Our chat would be random really, like I always talk to my friends. We would catch up, talk about what we’re eating, ramble about where we’re going to go this weekend or just comment on the pictures we just shared. I know most of you are as silly as I am… or tell me I’m wrong.
So, who are those 5 or more people you want to add in your group chat?
Have a nice day,
