I would never go to a vegetarian restaurant unless I had no other options; it’s not a good way of thinking, but that was my stand before I visited Little Italy. I was certainly surprised I could enjoy vegetarian meal that much.
Little Italy is chain restaurant serving Italian and Mexican dishes. My foodie gang, Pune Foodiez and I were invited to visit their new branch in Chinchwad, Pune.
First I must admit it was difficult to navigate through the detailed and exhaustive menu of Little Italy. Ask for recommendation and the staff will be happy to guide your to their popular dishes.
There are wide varieties of mocktails at Little Italy. I tried Virgin Pina Colada and Nice & Naughty which were quite good and refreshing. I also tried some mojito, but it needed a little more kick in it.
We started off with Nacho with Cheese Sauce and Beans with 3 types of salsa. The chips were crispy and perfect. The cheese sauce had a tad of sweetness in it which made the dish really balance and addictive.
Bruschetta Al Pomodoro, sliced farmer’s bread, grilled and topped with garlic, fresh tomato, olive oil and oregano, was amazingly fresh. This was one of the best bruschettas I’ve ever had in Pune.
Funghi Alla Trapanese, roasted mushroom flavored with garlic, lemon and parsley, drizzled with olive oil and served with fresh bread, was excellent. The mushroom were soft and succulent. This is a must try.
Garlic Toast topped with tomato sauce, onion, capsicum, cheese and herbs, baked until perfection was really good; it vanished quickly as soon as it arrived at our table.
There were so many kind of salad to make health conscious people happy. We tried Insalata Mista which has cherry tomato, lettuce, cucumber, mozzarella, olives, dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Contadina was filled with fresh tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, basil, onion and green beans. Both dishes were fresh and packed with healthy goodness.
Spinach Salsa was very interesting. It was creamy and cheesy type of salsa, served with thin sliced of fresh toast. It was so warm and comforting.
For main course, we had Tabasco Pizza, a wood-fired baked pizza with spicy tomato sauce, mozzarella, jalapeno, peppers, sun-dried tomato and tabasco sauce. The pizza crust was thin and perfect. The topping was intense and the heat from tabasco sauce really gave a good touch to it.
Pasta Barbaresca, penne in creamy cheese sauce with a touch of herbs, was another popular dish at the restaurant. The sauce was rich and perfectly seasoned.
Lasagne Alla Gypsy was really rich and creamy, filled with homemade pasta with bechamel sauce between layers, stuffed with mushroom and aubergine and drenched in tomato sauce, mozzarella and pecorino cheese.
For dessert, we tried some of the best dishes on their menu. The fantastics were Panna Cotta and Chocolate Bomb. Panna Cotta was absolutely decadent and delightful. Chocolate bomb filled with rich gooey chocolate ganache. We had to order the second.
Blueberry Cheesecake and Mango Cheesecake had a beautiful flavors, but I thought the texture were a bit grainy.
Tiramisu couldn’t impress us. The dish needed a little something and texture has to be more refined.
I really enjoyed my meal at Little Italy despite the whole menu was vegetarian. They have a vast varieties of dishes that I wanna go back to try more.
