Are you a fan of South Indian food? My family and I are! Not only because my big boy is from the south and we regularly have South Indian meals that make us adore it, but the diverse varieties of the hearty warm dishes from South India makes the perfect comfort food anytime of the day.
UpSouth, a fast food restaurant at Phoenix Market City Pune, is known to serve good South Indian quick fixes with value for money. On the menu, the famous and loved dishes like Idli-Vada, different types of Dosa, Uttappam, the delightful curd rice, upma, poori and parota are to choose from. Hot snack like Veg Cutlet, UpSouth Crispy Bullets, Malabari Parota Sandwich are satisfying and easy on stomach.
Degree Kaapi, an aromatic South Indian Coffee is rich and strong. It is perfect to wake up your appetite or have it later to settle down the hearty meal.
Ghee Idli Sambar is a plate of 14 mini Idlis served with sambar and coconut chutney. The idlis were hot, greased with ghee and soft. It’s kid-friendly and very comforting.
UpSouth Special Masala Dosa is stuffed with spicy flavorful filling. It’s hot and crispy, served with chutneys and sambar. Coconut chutney was fresh and light, but it could use a little salt in it. The sambar was flavorful, but it should be served piping hot.
I loved Ghee Roast Dosa, the crisp paper thin golden brown dosa. It’s wonderful with chutneys and sambar.
At UpSouth, the meal combos are generous and reasonable. UpSouth Special Combo (Rs.179) includes Mini Masala Dosa, 2 Pooris, Sambar Vada, 7 Mini Ghee Idlis served with Mirapakaya Pattani Curry, Sambar and 3 chutneys. A big glass of buttermilk is also a part of this combo.
For a lighter combo, Crispy Cheese Combo consists of Upsouth Crispy Bullets, Sabudana Cheese Vada, Veg Cutlet and buttermilk. Crispy Bullets is filled with flavorful masala rice and deep fried until perfection. Veg Cutlets was lovely brown on the outside and soft on the inside. Ketchup was served on the side. This combo can be quite addictive.
Curd rice at UpSouth is delectable. Perfectly seasoned, slightly chilled and fresh.
For Dessert, Kesari Bath, Badam Halwa and Elaneer Mousse were on the menu. Kesari Bath and Badam Halwa were creamy and delightful.
What I really enjoyed was Elaneer Mousse which was rich, dense and packed with delightful flavor of coconut. I will definitely go back for this.
Buttermilk, a perfect complement to a full meal like this, was refreshing.
