When I posted a recipe of Kokum tea yesterday, a reader wrote me an email asking where to find kokum in the United States. To be honest, I really have no idea, but the grocery stores that sell Indian products are my best bet.
Anyway, because of that I just want to show you an up close picture of semi-dried kokum.
Here it is. It’s slightly sour and very pungent.
And here is another recipe of my new found favorite ingredient.
Kokum Ice Tea is very refreshing. I can see this drink become something very popular in summer. It’s winter right now, but I really don’t mind sipping this in the warm afternoon.
Kokum Ice Tea
1 ltr water
10 pieces of semi-dried kokum
½ cup sugar
½ tsp salt
Crushed ice to serve
Wash the kokum well and rise.
Bring water to boil in the pot. When the water is boiling, add the kokum. Boil for 3 minutes.
Turn off the heat and add sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Let the sweet kokum tea cool completely.
Serve chill with some ice.
